During the summer of 2005, over six hundred paratroopers were brought
together to forge a force that would continue the proud lineage of their World
War II forefathers. The 3-509th would deploy to Iraq in support of Operation
Iraqi Freedom. Just weeks after getting “boots on ground,” the battalion would
execute short-notice missions.
