"We Have Returned" by James Dietz
The
37th "Buckeye" Infantry Division was called to active duty
in October, 1940 with 18,000 members from Ohio. Later, the 129th
Infantry Division from Illinois joined the Division as it prepared
for action in the Pacific. On January 9, 1945, they landed at
Lingayen Gulf and moved toward Manila, which they liberated on March
3, 1945 - fulfilling the infamous words of General Douglas MacArthur,
"I Shall Return."
